Nantucket Massachusetts – Travel Essay

30 miles or so from Cape Cod

Why do I love Islands so much?  I feel that the newness and the untypical views give off a refreshing feel.  I love the isolation.  I considered traveling to Easter Island this year.  However, that would be over the top.  Isn’t it the best of both worlds to work on your laptop and then take your bicycle to the beach.  Bring your surfboard and chat with the locals.  The island obviously connotes that there is water all around; meaning there are plenty of beaches.  All I need now is Boston Red Sox tickets.

My wife and I came to Nantucket in 1986.  We were here for 5 days.  I knew that Nantucket roads would be crowded, but it was great to see a beautiful yellow Corvette and a silver Cadillac.  Why do I love isolation?  I love it because I love the water and the play of the ocean.  I can play my guitar without having people laugh at my beginning guitar skills.  Sometimes I just simply want some solitude.

In addition to Nantucket I have also visited Bermuda and Martha’s Vineyard.  I am considering traveling to Block Island or Monhegan Island for my next vacation.  Why? Because they are Islands!
