Niagara Falls – Travel Essay Located in USA,
State of New York and also General: In 1678, a Jesuit missionary named Louis Hennepin discovered the falls which are now named Niagara Falls. (Of course, the indigenous people knew about the falls all along). The water going over the falls comes from the Niagara River. The water comes from the four furthest Great Lakes (Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Erie). Lake Ontario does not count because that water had already gone over the falls. I am told that the water coming over the Canadian Falls sends 9 times the water that goes over the American side. Why is Niagara Falls a honeymoon destination? Well, according to a friend of mine, actors Marilyn Monroe and Joseph Cotten were making a movie together in 1953. The movie was named Niagara and the main actors were staying in Niagara Falls. Things to do: Tourism is synonymous with Niagara Falls. Millions of people come to the falls each year. Be sure to watch the falls from both the American side and the Canadian side. Take a ride on one of the Maid of the Mist boats. Take the Journey Behind the Falls. Check out American Falls, Horseshoe Falls, Rainbow Bridge, Goat Island and Bridal Veil Falls. Check out the Wax Museum nearby and tethered helium balloon. Additionally there is an IMAX Theater and a Casino Resort.
