My Necessity

 By: David Van Buskirk

To lose you would be to breathe without air,
To stare out the window without any care,
To strive all my life without any goal,

To just be a body without any soul,
To time the rain as it falls from the sky,
Just to see if it’s faster than I can cry,

Losing you would be the start of the end,
Because you’re not only my love,
You’re my best friend.

The reason I smile and the reason I wake,
Losing you would be more than my heart could take,
So make me a promise and comfort my cries,

Stay by my side and tell me no lies,
I will love you forever as I love you today,
So I’m holding my breath until you say you’ll stay.
