Sunrise
Poetry by
Sabrina Pol
For now, I shall not smile because I know
That if I should, you’ll feel compelled to leave.
And truth be told, I have come to believe
In secret, I do not want you to go.
How can it be, when not so long ago
We clashed like angry storms incessantly
And caused all those around us to agree
For us to get along, there was no hope.
But somehow, in me something thought it time
For change within my heart and in my eyes.
And slowly, disbelieving I could see
How close we truly are—yes, you and I.
But just for now, come stand here by my side
And watch the sunrise quietly with me.
