I Am From

By Alyssa Linckens

I am from the overflowing containers
or pointless thoughts.
I am from the trail
on my way to the Pink Church
passing the walnut and almond
trees.
I am from Auntie Debbie’s house
from making a masterpiece
collage with Nana.
From water balloon fights in
The Park.
Getting ready to hide the new stock of
balloons at The Market.
I am from pumpkin pie
and obscure kitchen mixtures.
I am from my
eight dogs.
I’m from the back bay
riding in the bus with Chici..
From making fairy dolls with Lolo.
Sitting on the roof eating
loquats.
I am from the wise words of my Mom
with tears in my eyes.
From scoring the winning goal
and keeping a spot in line.
I am from happiness, confusion, laughter,
frustration,
compulsions and excitement.
I am from pure joy.
