Sonnet
By Laura E. Walker

I keep so many memories
Dancing behind so many looming doors
A garden overgrown and stone cold floor
A haunted room locked up for centuries
While shadows stalk through cryptic rectories
Still, skeletal papers filled with scores
Of people gazing back with corners torn
Eyes gray, no longer wanting anything
But still through the eyes of stone their souls may watch
The way we always survey them alone
Though in the ground, encased, their bodies rot
Perhaps they still may dream of things they know
Once again remember what time forgot
And wait in silent reverie on thrones
