Fireworks

Poem by Lisa J. Leavell

Who are you to think you know me

to think you can understand me

                                                          not even I do.

I write abstractly

                             emotionally

and for that I am not a poet

and nor do I claim to be

if that classifies me with you.

                             I am not your sycophant

So now, I will be sure to use

          small words

so it is certain you will understand

                                                          that you never will.

My poems are merely transcriptions

                             of my emotions

                                                          not even I can explain

it stems from beauty, from love

from pain anger.

Nevertheless it is always there

The tiny seed of emotion

Finally exploding on the page

Fireworks of understanding.
