My Beautiful Butterfly
Poem by Jennifer Salinas
The day you decided it was time,
time to come into this world.
We had some problems, only a few.
It seemed like time stood still not knowing if you were a boy or a girl.
As things progressed, it was finally time,
to see my beautiful butterfly.
First time I seen you, looking you over,
making sure you were complete from your head down to your feet. Looking
at
your dark brown eyes it perfectly made my beautiful butterfly.
One year later, you've grown so much.
A sweet little girl, right down to the touch.
But if needed, you can be tough and always smiling a whole, whole bunch.
Even though the years will fly you will always be my beautiful
butterfly.

OverNight
Poem by April Lund
Something almost blinding happened that night.
Scary when you consider it;
What can happen overnight,
Stop and think.
Overnight..
What can happen.
A man stalks the local diner tonight
Jumps behind the can
When she comes out
To unlock her car.
He grabs her,
And she screams, but.
Those will soon fade.
A man leaving a bar decides to drive.
A woman works graveyard shift
Pulls out to go home
The man's eyes close
He swerves to miss
But is to late, he hits.
Her eyes close as the siren wails.
An old woman of definite years
Lays awake in her hospital bed
She looks at the rain
Falling outside
She takes her last breath.
Put to rest, finally, the pain is gone.
A woman gives the sign,
It's definitely time.
There's water on the floor,
Contractions are their way
Her husband grabs the keys,
To the hospital.
A new life is born.
All this and more in one night..
Overnight.
