A Poem

Poem  by Macduff  Oliver Arez Newman

A poem! , what is a poem
an ode to a friend
or words borrowed just to be lent,
or maybe a rhyme to which we keep time,
like these here lines.

A poem! , is it nature's beauty made immortal
by a pen in a hand, no longer
or are they words thrown together to show one's love
and make the other's heart grow fonder.

Poems of death and destruction, have come across a few
celebrating life, indeed a plenty we do
and when our time comes, for all of ours will,
do we not pay our dues, still....................

For in death there is life
and so in life there is death,
but my question is answered not yet,
a simple one be it, what is a poem?
answers to be given by way of the net.

Home Sweet Home

Est. 2000

Poem by Lisa J. Leavell

I stand here in the dark,
windows just beyond view
not wanting to know what a waits
                                                       beyond the brink.

This house reflects my soul
                                             hollow, empty, grievous.

I relish in the moment,
                             knowing the inevitable future.

Will this be my home or prison?

I listen to the foreign sounds
to the racing of my own heart
                                                                      echoing
                                                                 in the emptiness.

Outside now, I look towards the steady blinking of my past
          feeling farther away from everything
familiar to me than ever before.

The world gallops toward me in a blur,
Snakes of emotion hide in my shadow and
                                   crawl on my skin.

Which are more dangerous?
Those I have denied
Or the false ones I have accepted?

And yet in my uprooted, shattered world
The stars march on.
