Love is not a Game

A poem by Amy Hasley

Love is not a game,

My heart was not a prize.

It was given to you freely,

With all my love inside.

You said that you would cherish it,

And treat it tenderly.

With all the love and tenderness,

As it deserved to be.

Perhaps I was mistaken ,

To trust implicitly.

For you forgot the promise,

That you gave to me.

Love is not a game,

Your heart was not a prize.

I thought it was given freely,

With all your love inside.

I have always cherished it,

And treated it carefully,

With all the love and tenderness,

As it deserved to be.

Love is not a game,

Our hearts were not the prize.

Here is yours returned intact,

Please do the same with mine.
