Murder on Home Base
By: Susanna Conway
The many names they call me
The many remarks
Sometimes I sit down and cry
Just as I'm doing now
Sitting in a chair writing away
Trying to ease the pain
I've looked to guidance
I've looked to God
All I see is an endless path
I can't find the end
I wonder why
They call me hurtful names
I've come to know
These aren't playful games
I would have thought so
If it hadn't lasted so long
Bricks and stones can break my bones
But words can never hurt me
Then why do they
Always have a come back
Why do they throw
verbal sticks and stones
Not only does their talk hurt
So do their actions
The back turning
The heart jabbing
They think so little of me
Does that mean they are evil?
School is supposed to be a safe place
A baseball players home base
To me it is a war zone
With no way out
Enemies surround me
Their weapons held up high
All pointing at the little girl
Who surely must die
It seems like I'm watching from afar
For I don't defend myself
Curse the shyness now
Each day I'm murdered
Each day I die
Each day I wonder why
